    • Synopsis
    • Carmela and her brother, Ricardo support Emancipation: he joins the Patriot Army and she, from the convent, writes articles in favor of Freedom. With the declaration of Independence in 1821, both are awarded by General San Martín and continue working for the Free Homeland.
After many battles, the Spanish Crown is forced to surrender. Under these circumstances, Ricardo is assassinated by Colonel Moncada, who - like other royalist officers - refuses to accept defeat. Thus, together with royalist troops and civilians, he took the Real Felipe fortress, waiting for reinforcements from Spain to re-establish the Colonial Regime. But months go by and no ship arrives to help them. At that time, the situation of civilian asylees becomes dramatic, as there is a lack of food and they begin to fall ill and even die.
Upon learning that some sick asylees were being let out, Carmela installed a shelter near the fort, with a group of religious who -like her- dress as laymen. Her objective is to establish contact with the refugees in the fortress, in order to achieve a revolt that allows them to get out alive. To do so, she receives the help of Bernardo, who was her boyfriend before she entered the convent. Together, they host many of those who were expelled from the fort and one of them gives them key information for their mission: the existence of a tunnel to enter the fortress.
The group manages to do it and goes out with about 20 people, but Carmela - without telling anyone - decides to stay to avenge the death of her brother.
In the confrontation with Moncada, she is forced to kill him, in self-defense. At that moment, confused, she notices that there is someone else in the room: it is her brother Ricardo. Both manage to escape from the Real Felipe, jumping from one of the walls, as when they played war as children.
A few hours later, Bernardo and the nuns arrive for Carmela, while it is seen that her spirit accompanies that of her brother, moving away from the fort. However, the desperation of her friends makes her return.
Carmela decides to leave the religious life, marry Bernardo and stay to live on the ranch. A few months later, both are witnesses of an exciting moment: the recovery of the fort, which meant the definitive Freedom in the country.
