- Synopsis
- This is a romantic comedy about two intelligent and lovable people who fall in love with each other under false pretences. Mac is a divorced man who is ill-suited for being back on the dating scene and is failing miserably. He is advised by his married friend Chris to pretend he is a married man seeking to have an affair. This, Chris believes, will take the air of desperate loser away from Mac; women sense that other women don't want him. Beth, meanwhile, has been dumped by her long term boyfriend for a younger woman and has resolved to do something reckless for once in her life: have an affair.
  Usually, people meet presenting their best side first. Mac and Beth meet each other presenting a side of themselves that has never even been expressed before; Mac the two-timing bastard and Beth the temptress. When they meet – what else? – they fall in love. Now we have Mac, trapped in a lie, and Beth, who was betrayed by her ex and could never forgive a liar. Yet we see they are perfect for each other.
  The comedy stems from the deeper and deeper mess Mac gets himself into – ever guided by the crazy male advice of Chris – as it becomes more evident that Mac and Beth belong together. Mac, forced to live his lie, must grab time with Beth during the day or early evening, and then go home to his 'family'; in other words leave Beth’s warm bed for his empty and cold flat. When Mac tells Beth he loves her and has decided to leave his wife, Beth says that she would never cause the break-up of a family and would leave Mac if he were to divorce. And as for Beth, the pain of being 'the other woman' is the most passionate and emotionally extreme event in her otherwise mundane life and she is drawn to it like a moth to a flame. Mac feels more and more guilty about his lies to Beth. But if he confesses the truth, wouldn’t that end the love of his life?
  This is a film for a mature cosmopolitan audience. Finding love again as you get older is tough. Finding a good man as you get older is even tougher.
  The central roles offer a lot of fun for the actors and the story takes a contemporary twist on the eternal search for love.
